Leona MacIntyre - Artist
I began my artistic journey in 2000 as a form of stress reduction therapy, by reading books and taking a few classes. I became completely hooked on painting. Over the past six years, I have studied under Julia Conlin, Sheila Hill, Yequian and Sue Marentette.
I particularly enjoy working on the larger canvases in acrylic, experimenting with different textures and the flexibility of various styles this medium allows. Working in watercolours allows me to paint while traveling, on vacation, at the cottage and in natural settings. My main source of inspiration is nature and I tend to favour interesting skies and water scenes.
The concepts and ideas for my paintings arrive uninvited with unusual clarity and a sense of urgency to begin what is often a several month journey towards a finished piece. I find I have painted the piece several times in my mind before I actually pick up a brush. As I continue to nurture my creative side and work towards mastering the skills required to become an artist, I have found the fellowship of the artistic community both welcoming and supportive.
My work can be found in private collections in Ontario and Eastern Canada and has been show in the juried show at Nancy John's Gallery in 2009.
