DENNIS K.SMITH

LaSalle Artist, Dennis K. Smith grew up as young lad with a lot of imagination in the small farming community of Harrow Ontario.

It is those early inventive years and quieter times that are the underlying foundation within all his work. His faith in God added to this blend, allows for certain serenity and honest simplicity to flow throughout his works. His love for music combined with his distinctive artistic expressiveness causes his work to flow with rhythmic movement and audibly sing out by the use of strong contrast and bold fresh vibrant colour. For more than fifty years He has crossed disciplines to creatively communicate his life’s experiences through Drawing, printmaking, painting, sculpture, music and play writing.

Artist’s Statement

I believe that art is capable of engaging and enriching the spirit of man. Through art mankind overcomes the barrier of the spoken language and speaks a visual dialogue that is birth from the heart. I strive to convey a greater appreciation of my subject by shifting the perception of what many view as ordinary, and hopefully elevate it to art. To accomplish this, I am not challenged to render an exact likeness, but endeavor to artistically react to what I am seeing and feeling about my subject then visually and emotionally transferring that response to the viewer.
