Trudy Dempsey - Portrait Artist
Doreen Wyatt
I originally started painting in oils with artist Helen Donelli and stopped painting to work with my husband in our jewellery store until 1992 when we retired. I was fortunate in meeting artist Dennis Smith and he encouraged me to start painting again, but problems of using oils became even more so. With Dennis’s encouragement I took up painting with acrylics. I found that it gave me more versatility while painting and allowed me to work more quickly and dramatically. Colours became more vibrant and the quick drying worked to my advantage.
My favourite subject is painting flowers that grow in abundance in my garden and I like to paint them as they grow, not the typical ball or triangular still life arrangement, but a very free form as they appear to grow in nature. |
