Maria Jose: Artist Bio
Maria Jose is a grade 12 student at Walkerville Collegiate Institute who is passionate about fine arts and performing arts. She is enrolled in the Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts, and maintains high academic grades in all subjects. She graduated from elementary school with several awards including the Academic Achievement Award, Visual Arts award, Citizenship award, Honour Roll and the University of Windsor Alumni Award. She developed her interest in drawing at the age of 7 and started painting at the age of10. Her love for the arts has only grown since then. She now has over a 100 paintings,both in oil and acrylic. Maria is inspired by the beauty of nature, which is a common theme throughout her work. Maria is a trained Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Bollywood, and Bharatanatyam (an Indian classicaldance form) dancer and has performed on several stages. She has also anchored stageshows and TV shows. Follow Me TV has televised a documentary about this youngartist. An avid participant of many extracurricular activities, Maria volunteers her time todifferent local events and organizations, including the Arts Council Windsor Region,OLPH, and her high school. She is the Vice President of the Arts Council WindsorRegion’s Youth Arts Collective, “Vanguard”, a group of young, active artists who act as avoice for emerging artists and organizes art festivals in Windsor. She is also a memberof The Association of Representational Artists and Walkerville Artists’ Co-op. She plays piano, flute and enjoys singing during her free time. She also enjoys playingbadminton, and is the Junior Coach for Team Ready Sports Badminton Club. Maria has raised funds for several charities including Hospice, Hiatus House, the Downtown Mission and UNICEF, individually and collectively. Maria hopes to promote young local artists, educate people about the importance of arts and culture to strengthen the community, and aspires to promote art as an investment. |
