COPYRIGHT LAW

UNDERSTANDING THE DEFINITION OF "ORIGINAL ART"
Original art – One-of-a-kind piece executed by the artist’s hand. Reference photos may be used with permission of the photographer. This art category includes such media as paintings, sketches, colorings, collages, calligraphy, scratchboards, and animation cells. Art imitations include reproductions, prints or giclee. A piece of fine art can never be reproduced because there can only be one original. The reproduction or “copy” cannot be called original as it becomes an interpretation by one artist of what another artist has already interpreted and rendered. Please refer to the bylaws of ARA for our exact interpretation and member guidelines.
All images and text posted on the ARA website are protected by copyright. Reproductive uses are prohibited without the express written authorization of the member artist. ARA owns copyright covering the images, text and any other items here on our website. Any commercial or publication use is strictly prohibited. Copying, redistribution, or exploitation for personal or corporate gain is not permitted.
Make certain you understand how to protect your original artworks and what the law says about use of reference materials for your work.
